I’ve been playing COD4 since christmas last year both on the XBOX 360 version and the PS3 version. Now if I’m correct they did release an update for XBOX 360 to fix the accuracy, but I had already switched to PS3. Activision left COD4 before they could do an update for the PS3 version. Over the past 9 months I have been playing this game I have realized how much it actually sucks. Believe it or not this game actually did amazing and is probably the most popular console first person shooter out right now. But now that I realize there was nothing really out at the time, except for Halo 3 which for some people were getting old. But Call of Duty 4 thrived on the Playstation 3 because there just wasn’t anything other first person shooters. I mean this game isn’t all bad, it did dominate all other shooters with photo-realistic graphics. So anyways lets get straight to the list of things that make this photo-realistic game horrible.
The List
- Mass of people using RPDs aka light machine guns all the time.
- When you lag you will not notice, except for the fact that it takes you extra long to kill someone.
- Almost nobody uses teamwork, so your forced to play with friends to do good.
- First time you buy the game you have a disadvantage, because you have to rank up to get better guns.
- Mortardom, the perk that drops a live grenade instantly when you die.
- Juggernaut, the perk that gives you extra health the second your health goes out.
- Last Stand, the perk that allows you to shoot with a hand gun after you die for a short amount of time.
- The unusual amount of campers on this game.
- How the game allows the enemies to respawn right next to you.
- The bullet penetration in this game is not realistic at all.
Thankfully Socom: Confrontation is coming out in about two months (Or Sept. 1st for everyone who will be participating in the Public Beta). The game that everyone calls, “The Real Tacticle Shooter.” From what I have seen so far there are so many things that make me want Socom: Confrontation so bad. First off in ranked games there will be no RPGs and Grenade Launchers. Voice chat will be just like how it is in real life. Everyone uses teamwork in Socom. The ability to customize my character and choose the type of armor I wear. The type of armor you wear even determines how fast or slow you run. A headshot is always a one hit kill. Finally, knife kills will be one hit in the back, and it will take two hits in the front to kill. And there are many more things that makes Socom so realistic. So yea I can’t wait to throw COD4 in the garbage once I get Socom: Confrontation. Oh and you won’t see me going to the store to get COD5 either.
- Socom AKA The Real Tacticle Shooter
i agree on you with three things;
martyrdom.
juggernaut .
respawning.
- if you’re on a killing streak and the last guy you kill dies easily but that martyrdom grenade he leaves behind takes you out. it’s such a annoying way to go out.
- the other perk is just plain noobie. be a manly gamer! lol
- the map called, “shipment”. wow, the respawning on that map is crazy! respawn during a airstrike, respawn when 5 grenades are thrown in the area you are spawning. it’s not only with that map but that’s the worst map to respawn in.
overall though, i love fps. cod4 is on my favs list, even though with those annoying perks or respawns.

I like the game, and the perks make it interesting. I cursed so hard the first few times I got killed by Martyrdom, but by the time you level up enough to unlock it for use, it’s clear it’s only effective against noobs not weary of it, and campers, and of course the occasional skilled player who just can’t get out of the way.
Kind of a bit weary of Socom, I’ll certainly give it a go, I’ve just never played one before, and it looks really hardcore – COD4 is so great because anyone can get into it and have fun, Socom (from what I’ve seen and heard) is all about tactical gameplay and teamwork.
Although I doubt that’ll translate into the online only iteration, I’ve got a feeling people will just go crazy like any other game.

Well I’m in the Socom Public Beta right now. It is the most realistic shooter I have encountered and is so much different than COD4. In Socom people are constantly talking, giving the team enemy positions and so on. The recoil is also much more realistic than most other shooters. COD4 lacks realism I dislike the perks in COD4 because it is not realistic. The perks allow people who can’t kill people with their skill so they rely on the perks to help them out. But do not get me wrong this game is great but unrealistic. If your looking for a realistic, tactical shooter COD4 is not the game. The abuse of the perks in COD4 is just too annoying. I hate that when I skillfully shoot someone that this little cross pops up when the guy should be dead, and then gives him an 2nd chance to kill me. I just enjoy realistic shooters more than unrealistic ones.

I get what your saying now, I agree, COD4 isn’t really a realistic shooter.
I have great fun with it, I like to have a bit of freedom in how I play, if I want to go Rambo and on my own I can do that – or I can use teamwork to play as well.
Having said that, some of my best online experiences have been in MGO playing that mode without respawns and using team tactics and voice chat to track down and safely eliminate the enemy.
Will be looking forward to Socom, and I really hope it keeps the teamwork, realism thing going and doesn’t just turn into another hectic shooter.

Firstly cod4 is good because there is such a high combonation of guns and then you can make kits which means you can specialise for certain tasks when working as a team. Yes i said working as a team that i have found happens quite alot. one bad point is the size of the maps, imainly feel this after playing battlefield bad company so i am looking forward to operation flashpoint 2 which should be better than both cod4 and the new socom
